Co-Director Position Description: Submissions due March 31st

The mission of the Lubbock Civic Orchestra is bringing great orchestral music to the community with free concerts and outreach programs, while also providing auditioned local musicians a platform for utilizing their talents for service to Lubbock and the surrounding areas. The co-director is a volunteer position that works in collaboration with their counterpart to oversee and promote the musical excellence of the organization.

Responsibilities

  • Musical Direction and Leadership: Provide artistic direction for the orchestra, including selecting repertoire, leading rehearsals, and conducting performances. Ensure a high level of musical quality and consistency.
  • Collaboration and Communication: Work collaboratively with orchestra members and board members. Communicate effectively to foster a positive and productive rehearsal and performance environment.
  • Program Development: Assist in planning concert seasons and special events. Offer creative ideas for programming that appeals to a diverse audience.
  • Community Engagement: Engage with the community through educational programs, outreach activities, and public performances. Promote the orchestra and its role in the community.
  • Administrative Duties: Participate in fundraising activities. Attend board meetings and provide input on organizational decisions.

Qualifications

  • Education and Experience: Degree in music, conducting, or a related field. Significant experience in orchestral conducting and music direction.
  • Musical Expertise: Extensive knowledge of orchestral repertoire across various genres and periods. Strong skills in interpretation, technique, and performance practices.
  • Leadership and Interpersonal Skills: Demonstrated ability to lead, inspire, and motivate musicians. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Community Involvement: Passion for community engagement and education. Experience in developing and leading community-based music programs.

Additional Requirements:

  • Availability for all Tuesday evening (and occasional weekend) rehearsals and performances (August – October, February – April).
  • Ability to travel for performances and engagements.
  • Commitment to fostering an inclusive and diverse environment within the orchestra.
